Find Out How To Dunk
Before We Begin
Before an ordinary player can even think about dunking, he needs to assess where he is at and be realistic. How tall a person is and his athletic abilities are the 2 chief factors in determining if he will ever be able to
dunk a basketball. We're not saying that it is not possible, but there are not many 5-6 players that will ever be able to dunk. In fact, even a six foot player will have to have above-average jumping ability in order to be able to dunk. Be sensible in your goals. At the same time, don't limit how high you think you can jump before you even begin. Many people have made amazing gains in their vertical jump. It will take hard work, but you can reap the rewards.
Things that should be evaluated before you start:
1.) Is height a problem? You can't change this. You CAN learn to jump higher, but you still may never be able to dunk a ball. But, that is alright! Develop other aspects of your game.
2.) Are you carrying too much weight? By carrying more weight than you should, you are limiting your jumping ability.
3.) What are your athletic abilities? Some people have the gift of being able to jump. You can develop it as well, but where you are starting. Get a measurement of your vertical jump before you begin. So you know how you are progressing.
4.) What kind of shape are you in? Jumping utilizes muscles from the entire body. Having just strong legs alone is not enough.
Let's Get Started
Start by making sure you are in the best overall shape you can be. This includes waist, chest, shoulders, and arms as well as your legs. To ensure you can reach your ultimate jumping potential, you need to be in good overall shape. You use your entire body while performing a jump, so it only makes sense that your entire body needs to be in shape. While this part of the process isn't glamorous, it is necessary. A solid groundwork is necessary to achieve the best results. Begin here and you will be rewarded down the road.
